Vincent Keymer

In September 2025, Vincent Keymer entered the top ten of the world chess rankings for the first time by winning the Chennai Grand Masters. Just two months later, with an Elo rating of 2776, he was already ranked fourth in the world.

Earlier in 2025, he won the Freestyle Chess tournament in Weissenhaus, defeating the world number one, Magnus Carlsen, in the semi-finals and the world number two, Fabiano Caruana, in the final.

Vincent Keymer was regarded as a child prodigy in Germany from an early age and as the greatest talent since world champion Emanuel Lasker. He made headlines internationally in 2018 at the age of 13, when he won the Grenke Open ahead of 49 grandmasters. With eight points from nine games, he achieved a tournament performance rating of 2796, setting a world record for his age group.

Born in Mainz in 2004, Vincent Keymer grew up in Saulheim in a family of musicians. He began playing the piano at the age of 4, before discovering chess at the age of 5. Vincent Keymer currently lives in Vienna.

Germany’s number one is coached by Peter Leko since 2017.
